YouTube For Your Business: Part Two – Uploading Videos

So you’ve created your YouTube channel, and you’re ready to start posting. It’s time to get to uploading some videos! Luckily, YouTube makes this incredibly easy, which after all is why we’re here in the first place. While logged in, just click the upload button in the top right. You’ll see a screen that looks like this:

From here, you can just drag and drop video files from your desktop, or click the center button to navigate to them and select them. Wait a little while for the video to upload, choose a title, and change the settings if you want (make sure to set it to “public” so other people can see it!), and you’re done!

Okay, there are a few more things to keep an eye out for than that. YouTube is very forgiving in what type of files you can upload: almost anything from a camera or video editor will work. Many of the things that used to be problems for people aren’t any more, though – for example, in the early days of YouTube videos were restricted in length and file size for new accounts, but this is no longer the case – anyone can upload videos up to ten hours long!

Also,when you’re uploading your video, you’ll notice there are monetization settings amongst the other settings. This will allow a YouTube channel that’s linked with a Google Adsense account to let advertisers put ads on their videos, collecting money from the viewers. Personally, I would recommend not doing this at first, as ads can sometimes make it harder for a channel to grow.

Lastly, YouTube monitors all the videos for copyrighted audio – music and sound clips from movies, so avoid using those as much as possible. If you do get a copyright notification from YouTube, though, don’t worry! All it usually means is you won’t be able to advertise on that video, not that you have to take it down.
