A Starry Christmas
“A Starry Christmas” allowed me to try something new by experimenting with the “Thick Paint” feature of Painter 2018. I was able to make a close study of van Gogh’s brush strokes by placing a copy of “The Starry Night” on a separate layer to refer to as I painted my composition on the “Thick Paint” layer. I created my own brush variants in an attempt to emulate the brush stokes of the master painter. I also began reading Vincent’s biography and correspondence to his brother Theo.
I am not sure van Gogh would be appreciative of my efforts but it was sure a learning experience for me.

I love this technique. It’s a great adaptation of van Gogh’s The Starry Night!
Thanks Linda. It is really fun playing with the “Thick Paint” brushes. I love the fact that I could adjust the brushes.

Thanks Marci. I had a great time doing this. Following van Gogh’s brush strokes gave me a lot of insight in understanding his moods when he painted this.
