Welcome Windows 10!

Windows 10 Corel Photo EditingWelcome Windows 10!

To coincide with Microsoft’s launch of Windows 10, Corel issued a news release detailing our wide range of products that are all set to be available for Windows 10.

If you’re a longtime user of PaintShop Pro, I’m sure it doesn’t surprise you. We’ve been working on Windows for 25 years now and, at every launch of Microsoft’s dominant OS, we’re always there. Windows 10 is no different.

While there’s no question that the Windows world is changing (we’re changing with it) we’re really excited about what Windows 10 means for photographers on the PC. Where Windows 8 was met with some confusion, dissatisfaction and, ultimately, change, Windows 10 is poised to be something different.

Whether it’s the offer of a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 customers, or the rise of great Windows devices like the Surface 3 tablet, good things are still happening on Windows and more lies ahead.

Both PaintShop Pro and AfterShot Pro are now compatible with Windows 10 and, as we look ahead, we see some really cool upcoming opportunities on the PC platform.

We’re grateful for your help spreading the word about Corel’s photo products and our new blog. Remember, you can show your support by sharing our articles on Facebook, Twitter or giving them a +1 on Google using the buttons below.

Hi suyog, great to hear from you! No plans for a Mac version just yet, BUT you can still run Paintshop Pro on your Mac. I use Parallels to run Windows on my Mac, and Boot Camp works well too. You still get great performance and, with Parallels, you can even access files and folders from the Mac partition. I’ve linked to a guest post I wrote about PSP on the Mac for our friends over at Scrapbook Campus with more details. Hope this helps!

That’s not a solution. That is a 20GB+ application install when you factor in the need for a Windows License (which also costs more than the application itself) and this is not going to fly for people on 128 GB MacBooks, either.

In any case, Serif has their Affinity Products coming out on Windows and available for Mac, so the competition is as high as ever. I do own PSP X8, but the performance is not great and the Camera RAW Lab is terrible. Additionally, AfterShot doesn’t support DNG files from Camera Phones (iPhone, Galaxy S, etc.).

You’re going to lose customers to Serif if the products don’t improve, and people who work on both platforms are going to like being able to keep the same base workflows and avoid having to learn multiple applications that perform the same purpose

I know I will likely uninstall PSP once Affinity Photo releases for Windows, because of this. They even have an iPad version coming out… Why is Corel tying their hands behind their backs.

Also disappointed that WordPerfect Office hasn’t made it to the Mac. WordPerfect X7 is also broken on Windows 10 (tons of UI bugs, can’t set File Associations via the Control Panel or while installing, etc.). I’m done with Corel.

The Start menu is back; it’s almost funny how relieving that is. That humble Start button has been a fixture on the lower left corner of the Windows desktop since the halcyon days of Windows 95, offering speedy access to apps and settings. Press it on Windows 10, and you’ll see the latest step in a long conversation about the state of the PC industry.

My Paintshop Pro X7 worked SO slowly when I switched to windows 10 that I switched back to 8.1. There were some other problems as well.

    • Greg says

That’s why I will stick to Windows 8.1 and NOT 10. Both PSP X7 and LR5 worked pathetically slow in windows 10. Does PSP X8 work at normal speed with Windows 10?

  3. Braidie says

I purchased PS Pro x7 ultimate last year and was waiting to put it on my new computer. My new computer runs on Windows 10. Am I reading this correctly that it will work on 10 even though the box says Windows 7 or 8?

    • Alex Brazeau says

Hi Braidie, PaintShop Pro X8 is the only version certified compatible with Windows 10, though I am personally aware of several Windows 10 users running older versions of PaintShop Pro. Hope this helps and if you do run into any troubles, our support team is standing by to assist.

Alex, how can what you said possibly be of ANY help?? there needs to be a patch to use versions prior to Pro X8 with Win 10! I have Pro X6 and am unable to write text on photos or when I try to create a watermark. I spoke to a Corel CSR in December who was unable to help me, passed me along to a tech who couldn’t either, and then in an email, I was told X6 is incompatible with Win 10. UNACCEPTABLE!!

        • Alex Brazeau says

Hi Lori, thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear about the issues you’ve been facing since upgrading to Windows 10. We recommend the software be used only with the operating systems it was designed for. In this case, PaintShop Pro X8 is the only version currently certified as compatible with Windows 10. As I mentioned, I am aware of older versions still running after updating to Microsoft’s latest OS, though we do not support those versions on anything other than what’s listed in the system requirements.

I am using PaintShop Pro X8 with Windows 10 and after basic, basic editing, X8 shuts down. It appears to happen anytime I try to save an image. Sometimes I get one done and occasionally as many as three.

    Solutions?

      Hi M. Winther,
Unfortunately any version earlier than PaintShop Pro X8 is not certified to be compatible with Windows 10.
A lot has changed since PaintShop Pro X1, we suggest you check out the free trial of the latest version (2022) at http://www.paintshoppro.com.

Will any version X8 and above work with windows 10? Or is it only the X8 version that will work?
I love PSP but lost use after the windows update, I’m going to buy a new version so I can use the program again so I want to be sure to buy the appropriate version.
    Thank you for any help

    • gilliandarby says

      Hi Sherry,

Yes, PaintShop Pro versions X8 and above will work on Windows 10.
