By Aaron Rutten

In this tutorial, Painter Master Aaron Rutten gives you step-by-step instructions on how to paint natural looking icicles using the Liquid Metal effect in Painter. He starts with a simple background and adds some distant trees to provide definition. Once the background is complete, Aaron shows you how to use the Liquid Metal plug-in to paint a series of icicles of different shapes and length. Finally, you’ll learn how to make the icicles look more realistic by adding a glow with an airbrush, darker outlines and light highlights with a jitter brush and then blend these various layers together for the final image.
