If you are a human being in 2015, you probably live, or have lived in a city. As of 2014, 54% of the world lived in an urban environment, and that number is only increasing. That means that when most photographers walk out their doors, they aren’t presented with pastoral landscapes and bees on a flower. Instead, they encounter the very human world of brick and concrete, streets and crowds.
For the next few weeks, we’re going to be featuring tips and tutorials that explore urban scenes and the various photographic opportunities (and challenges) they present. We’re kicking off this theme with a tribute to the great American city: New York. According to CNN, New York is the most photographed city in the world. Its skylines and its monuments are iconic. With more than eight million residents and a stunning fifty-four million tourists a year, New York is many things to many people. So, for your inspiration, we’ve collected five shots that offer beautiful and interesting takes on the City that Never Sleeps.
