Using auto-focus effectively. Generally, auto-focus on your digital camera will focus on an object in the center of the scene. But if you want an object to the side of the image to be in focus, this will cause problems. To solve this, first focus on your desired subject and press the shutter-release button down half-way. Then, holding the button, move your camera so the subject is correctly located to the side of the frame. Finally, press the button the rest of the way down to take your correctly focused shot.
