How to Use the Sunset Aglow Essentials Brushes

By Karen Bonaker

In this tutorial, Painter Master Elite Karen Bonaker introduces you to the Sunset Aglow Essentials brush pack. You will be guided step-by-step through the painting process and learn how to use the various brushes to create your own interpretation of Bob Ross’ Sunset Aglow painting. In the first stage, the Bristly brush is used to create an area of light that will add depth and dimension. Next, form the clouds and add details with the Distant Clouds and Sunset Clouds brushes. Once the sky is developed, the Sunset Lake and Mountain Glow brushes are used to create a horizon and mountain range. Then, add trees, foliage and grass with the Sunset Foliage, Trunks and Sunset Fir Trees brushes. Along the way, Karen provides many tips and shortcuts that you will find helpful for this and other painting projects.

Is there any way you could re-release the Bob Ross brush packs for Painter Essentials? Or at least have a blog entry to video on what basic brushes in Essentials are the closest equivalent? I would really like to follow the Bob Ross tutorials, but it’s kind of pointless if you don’t have the right brushes.

      Hello Megan,

Thank you for the suggestion! We have passed it on to the Painter team for their consideration. To help narrow down the search in the meantime, Bob Ross uses thick oil paints, and tends to stay within a 1/4″ to 1″ range in his brush sizes.

      Hello Will,

This brush pack is currently only compatible with Painter Essentials, and would not work in PaintShop Pro.

          Hello Curtis,

Unfortunately while there was also a version of the Sunset Aglow brush pack in the Mystic Mountain Painter pack, these Bob Ross brushes were available for a limited time, and can not currently be found in our store. Thank you for the interest though! We are always considering what sorts of new brushes we should add, and comments like these help shape our direction.
