What is a PNG file?

PNG is a raster image format that supports lossless data compression. It is short for “Portable Network Graphics”. Originally, this format was developed as an alternative of the GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) image format. PNG format is widely used for web content, specially bitmap images with transparent background. This format doesn’t have any copyright limitations and have the capability of containing 24 bit RGB color palettes and greyscale images. The lossless compression ensures detailed graphics in PNG format which makes it great for editing with high-end image editors like CorelDRAW.
