We started our family foundry in 1937. We have been using CorelDraw since 1998. We design bronze and aluminum plaques and create “Historic Programs” across the country. Some create a pattern and purchase 50+ plaques to keep in stock. 10 years later, they want to reorder. Unfortunately current versions of corel do not support older versions. We are sitting on 22 years of artwork patterns in our computer and we cannot access most of them. Is there a program out there that can convert them so we can use them? We have customers calling for their artwork, depending on us to have the computer file. We have them but cannot access them. HELP!

      Hello Andrea,

This is an interesting question! While CorelDRAW 2021 can open a range of files, for something from 1998 you will likely need to run the File Converter on them first. The file converter is a macro included with CorelDRAW that allows batch conversion of files, so you should be able to crunch through all those files quickly. We have a tutorial on the File Converter macro that you may find helpful in getting the macro set up and running. It sounds like you have quite a few patterns to go through, so while it does have the option to scan subfolders, we’d recommend going folder-by-folder to keep things organized and to tweak settings as needed.

One issue you may run into even with the converter is what fonts are in those files. If you don’t currently have the same fonts installed CorelDRAW will attempt to find and use something similar during conversion, but this may result in some design inconsistencies or missing text that will need to be cleaned up prior to use. There isn’t an easy way around this, unless you know exactly which fonts are in those files and can install them in advance.

If the macro doesn’t work out for you, please let us know! We also offer in-house conversion of older files as a professional service if needed.

      Hope this helps,

Hi, I’ve just started using corel and some of the brushes (also the eraser) don’t work at all with the stylus. They appear when I use my mouse, but otherwise don’t show up at all. I’m not sure if the problem’s with the stylus or the software.
Any help would be great, thanks

Scanned document, grayscale. Document of shapes and text. Outline traced and ended up with maybe 3 shades of light colored objects with a bazillion shades of gray background. IF I use the “remove background color” and “specify” and use the eyedropper to make transparent the light colored parts that I want to keep(because it is quick and easy), the resulting file basically has and prints as gray with the parts I want to keep “unprinted” or transparent so they are white on white paper. So is there now any way to change what is printing as gray to transparent and make the currently transparent items into black vector objects?

why I can’t export into a jpeg file after I accidentally click YES/NO on a prompt from COREL DRAW software asking (I can really remember exact question) if I would like COREL take care or take over certain online or web support (or authority) , I cant remember what I click. could be YES or NO, and after that I can’t export my cdr file into a jpeg on my computer? normally I can select what I need to export as jpeg file and save it on my desktop (where I select file output destination from prompt window as desktop, and I should see the file on my desktop). but now, I do the same process but it never appear on my desktop and neither successful anymore.

      Hello Jose,

First, uninstall CorelDRAW from the old computer while connected to the internet – this lets the uninstaller tell our servers that installation has been deactivated. You can then install on the new computer as normal (ideally while also connected to the internet for an easier activation). That’s all there is to it!

      Hello Brad,

By default, CorelDRAW automatically inserts hyperlinks when it detects a web or email address. You can disable this by navigating to Tools > Writing tools > Quick correct, and unchecking the “automatically hyperlink” option.

      Hello Alpha,

Unfortunately CorelDRAW 12 is no longer a supported product and our technicians would be unable to assist with this. We would suggest taking a look at the Knowledgebase, where we keep the solutions to many previously resolved issues, or the User Forums to see if anyone in the community has had a similar problem and resolved it.

      Hello Dana,

Great question! Recolouring can be a tricky business, but we have some tools to help you try out new combinations quickly and easily. I would suggest checking out our video on colour harmonies as a good starting point for this. The colour harmonies tool lets you ‘lock in’ a selection of colours as related, meaning that as you shift one value the others all change in proportion. Great for trying out new colour combinations fast.

Have used Corel for 20 years. Key to our productivity. One recurring problem – we import dwg files but each single imorted cad layer explodes into many separate layers. They appear mixed up and in random order in the Object Manager and it could take hours to manually sort them and then cut an dpaste the contents back into the single cad layers. If I could SORT THE LAYERS – alphabetically say – I could do this taks pretty efficiently. Is there any way to sort layers automatically rather than manually?

Why did Corel abandon the legacy user base and not offer an upgrade to the current version?
Yes, there is an upgrade offered in the form of a subscription license, but that doesnt work for many of us that have been onboard with Corel for decades.
    Very disappointed.

Probably a most basic question here. I apologize, but I use Corel Draw only for creating Bible verse videos~seems like I don’t have the knowledge to expand on more than that. Let me give you an example of what I am trying to find out. I currently have CorelDraw home and Student X8. I created visuals last year (2020) when I try to get into them again to be able to print out, it will not let me open these files. Do I need to upgrade to another Corel draw and if I do, will it allow me to get into my older visuals? Thank you for your help. Kathy

    • Adam Reply

      Hello Kathy,

What format were these files saved or exported as? They should open just fine in the same version of CorelDRAW or a newer one. When we see issues like this it is most often a corrupted save file or installation, or on occasion, a file that was made in a newer version of CorelDRAW and opened in an older one.

      Hello Rodney,

Which version of CorelDRAW 2020 are you using? If it is the Home and Student version, it does not ship with VBA and macros as these are classed as professional features. If you have a professional version, you can find the calendar wizard in the Tools menu under Macros > Run Macros.

Hi. I have a sheet of 14 labels. I just want to print one label, not 14. How do I print just one and pick the position of the label on the sheet?

    August 15, 2020 at 11:33 pm
    • Adam Reply

      Hi Dave,

CorelDRAW’s label printing functions are oriented more towards producing many labels quickly, but a relatively simple way to do this would be to load a blank canvas the same size as the label sheet, copying over your label to the appropriate position on the page, and print. If you see yourself doing this often, we would suggest saving a template with guidelines marking out where each label is on the sheet, to more easily assign and move labels depending on how many labels on the sheet have been printed.

      Hope this helps!

      1. Select the image or element.

      3. Enter the X and Y values of your canvas, and set “Copies” to zero.

      Hello Catherine,

It sounds like you may be in the Lite workspace, or another workspace with a less dense setup. You can change workspaces from Window > Workspace in the top bar, or from the Welcome Screen by selecting Tools > Customization > Workspace.

If you aren’t seeing any tools at all and the welcome display is not showing up, we would suggest using a factory reset to get back to the default menu. To do this, close CorelDRAW if it is open, and then hold F8 while launching the program to initiate a factory reset.

In the meantime, there are a number of different resources available to help you build a better understanding of the tools and features within CorelDRAW, starting off with the Quick Start guide and the Hints docker that are available from the Help menu, and the Learning tab in the Welcome book that has a selection of tutorials. There is my course that is available through LinkedIn Learning and while it was updated to include CorelDRAW 2018, it will certainly be very pertinent to learning the basics in what ever version of CorelDRAW you are using.

A Corel chat agent suggested that VideoStudio 2020 was the software for the task I have. Could you please confirm.
I’m trying to create a graphics in motion intro for the video presentation I am creating for our graduating seniors at Pender High School, where I teach.
The graphics in motion that I like is created with After Effects.
I do not use any Adobe software, I’ve always used Corel products. (For over 20 years now)
I would like to use all the photos of the seniors and have them flying towards the viewer and then go off screen.
Is this something that CVS2020 can do?

    • Adam Reply

      Hello Markil,

Yes, you could do that in VideoStudio! The ‘flying’ effect can be done by using keyframes to tell the picture to move from one point onscreen to another, and enlarging as they move to make them appear to be getting closer. You can see these tools in action in our Adding Custom Motion Effects tutorial. Hope this helps!

          Hi Markil,

I’m not sure we have a template that does quite what you are looking for, but if you are using paths, it should be quick to set something up. We would suggest building a set of, say, six or so custom motion paths that have pictures fly by to the left, right, top, and bottom of the screen, with a couple other path angles for variety. You can then save those paths and quickly apply them to multiple images, without having to recreate the same thing for every image.

If I design a brochure with pics and text to page size A5 for example, is it possible to adjust the entire contents to A4 including text size adjustment? I select all elements and adjust size, pics obviously no problem but text remains original font size. Test are in text frames.

      Hi Joanna,

We will be including this topic in our next Q&A session video. In the meantime, it certainly is possible to resize a design and have the text resize as well. If you have Artistic text in a design it is simply a matter of selecting everything and resizing it. In your situation, you have text in frames, also called Paragraph text. To resize these text frames and the text within, simply hold down the Alt key while resizing.

      Hope this helps!
