The Magic Move Tool
The new content-aware Magic Move tool speeds up the editing process by automatically replacing the background when you remove or move an object. This tutorial shows you how it works in 3 easy steps:
- select the object you wish to remove
- select the Magic Move tool, move the object and allow the processing to occur
- adjust the settings to ensure a smooth, clean look
And that’s how easy it is. The empty area left behind is automatically filled to match the surrounding background. It’s a great photo-editing time saver!

I am running X8, and I can’t find the magic erase or move tools, do I have to go back to X7 to use them?
I’m running X8 Ultimate (don’t know if that matters). You have to be in the Edit workspace. Pick a Selection tool (second from top on left) and Actions section appears in the upper left-hand area. Both tool options should be there.
i love this
I was enjoying it, but I touched the spacebar and it disappeared
Hello Judith,
If you accidentally delete or alter the selection before finishing with the Magic Move tool, you can use the undo function (Ctrl+Z) to undo the last couple steps and try again!
All the best,
